Overview#

New

  • Driver-assistance co-operation added for ICC (Intelligent Cruise Control) and LDA (Lane Departure Assist).
  • “Speed adjustment in bends” toggle added for ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control) and ICC.

New features#

Driver-assistance co-operation added for ICC (Intelligent Cruise Control) and LDA (Lane Departure Assist)#

Core logic: when the system detects that the driver intends to take over, the driver and the ICC/LDA system share control of the vehicle. The stronger the driver’s steering input, the weaker the steering support from ICC and LDA.

Take-over trigger condition: below 3.0 Nm of steering torque there is shared control (driver + ICC/LDA). At 3.0 Nm or more, ICC / LDA deactivate automatically and the driver takes full control.

Toggle for speed adjustment in bends added for ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control) and ICC (Intelligent Cruise Control)#

Settings path: Settings → ADAS → Safety Assist → Curve Assistant (default: off; stays switched on once activated).

Core logic: when ACC/ICC is active and the toggle has been switched on, the system reduces speed in anticipation, based on the curvature of the bend ahead, to support safe and comfortable cornering.

Where the curve-speed toggle sits in the head unit: ADAS, Safety Assist.

Toggle to prevent overtaking on the inside for ACC / ICC#

Settings path: Settings → ADAS → Driving Assist → Inside Overtaking Prevention (default: off; stays switched on once activated).

Core logic: when ACC/ICC is active, the speed is at or above roughly 90 km/h and the toggle has been switched on, the system actively reduces speed if the car is in the slow lane and a vehicle in the faster adjacent lane is travelling more slowly, in order to avoid overtaking on the inside.

The three ICC toggles this update adds, in ADAS, Driving Assist.

Toggle for adjusting the cruise speed with the accelerator pedal (override mode) for ACC / ICC#

Settings path: Settings → ADAS → Driving Assist (default: off; stays switched on once activated).

Core logic: the driver can adjust the cruise speed by pressing the accelerator pedal. This allows a quick, button-free speed change and improves the convenience of ACC/ICC in suitable driving situations.

If the set speed and the speed reached are both 80 km/h or below, the new cruise speed is the speed reached — example: target 60 km/h, accelerate to 75 km/h, release the pedal, new target 75 km/h.

If both are above 80 km/h, nothing changes — example: target 85 km/h, accelerate to 90 km/h, release the pedal, target stays 85 km/h.

If the target is below 80 km/h and the speed reached is above 80 km/h, the new target is capped at 80 km/h — example: target 60 km/h, accelerate to 85 km/h, release the pedal, new target 80 km/h.

Safety functions added for ICC/ACC: emergency stop, hands-off penalty logic and camera blockage detection#

Emergency stop function added for ICC: if the driver takes their hands off the steering wheel for a longer period (after a level 3 hands-off warning), the system switches on the hazard warning lights and brakes the vehicle in a controlled manner within its lane until it stops. Previously ICC was only ended; now ICC ends, the hazard warning lights come on and the car brakes to a standstill in lane.

Hands-off penalty logic added for ICC: after three level 3 hands-off warnings, ICC is disabled until the vehicle is restarted.

Camera blockage detection added for ACC/ICC: if the speed stays above 30 km/h for longer than 2 minutes and the camera is completely blocked, a warning message appears, a fault symbol is shown in the instrument cluster, and ACC/ICC are ended. The functions are available again as soon as the blockage has been cleared.

The page shows the corresponding telltales: hands-off warning, ICC warning lamp and ACC warning lamp.

Extended, extra-wide road-edge detection added for ICC#

  1. Extra-wide road-edge detection: on roads with a total width of 4–5.5 m, with no lane markings on either side but with recognisable road edges on both sides, ICC switches to Edge Following mode.

  2. Lateral guidance behaviour: ICC uses the detected road edges as virtual lane boundaries and orients itself on the centre of this virtual lane, in order to keep a safe lateral distance from oncoming vehicles and from the road edges.

  3. User experience: in this scenario, unnecessary ELK (Emergency Lane Keeping) interventions are suppressed. This gives calmer steering behaviour and a better match with how users normally drive on such roads.

Optimisations#

Maximum ICC activation speed raised to 150 km/h#

Maximum speed: 120 km/h → 150 km/h.

Other optimisations#

Memory function for ITAC settings after a vehicle restart added (AWD only).

Front-seat welcome mode optimised; anti-trap protection added at the rear. When a rear passenger is detected (seat occupied and/or seatbelt fastened), the automatic welcome function of the driver’s seat and front passenger seat is not activated. This prevents the front seats from moving back automatically and trapping or crushing rear passengers’ legs.

Discharge strategy at low temperatures optimised. In winter or at low temperatures, aggressive manoeuvres such as hard acceleration or frequent hard braking can cause battery voltage drops and so reduce the available power. With refined discharge control the vehicle can now provide higher discharge power in cold conditions. This improves acceleration performance, throttle response and the vehicle’s overall driveability at winter temperatures.

What we have not verified#

  • This is a translation of BYD Austria’s bulletin, not a test: we have not installed V2.1.0 on a Seal.
