New features#
New apps in the BYD Store#
Four new apps: YouTube, BYD for Zoom, BYD Arcade and Calm Radio.
Note: for safety reasons, engage “P” to use YouTube, Zoom and Arcade.
New apps in the BYD Store: YouTube#
The official YouTube app is available: music videos, games, fashion, beauty, news, learning and more.
Streaming video can cause heavy data use; BYD recommends connecting to a Wi-Fi network.
New apps in the BYD Store: BYD for Zoom#
Work from anywhere with a single app: team chat, phone, whiteboard, meetings and more. BYD for Zoom provides tools for remote communication and collaboration and supports high-resolution video meetings.
Precautions: 1. A stable network signal is required while the app is in use. 2. The camera function only works in vehicles fitted with in-car cameras. 3. Free meetings are limited to a maximum of 40 minutes in the basic version (this is Zoom’s official restriction, not a BYD product restriction). 4. Only starred contacts appear in the contact list (again Zoom’s official restriction, not BYD’s). 5. Long meetings can cause excessive data use; a Wi-Fi connection is recommended in that case.
New apps in the BYD Store: BYD Arcade#
BYD Arcade is a collection of mini-games from various platforms. Each game can be played offline with a single tap, to pass the time while waiting in the car or during short charging stops. The game content is updated regularly.
The titles are: 1. 2048 (controller can be added), 2. Tiny Yurts, 3. Packa bunchas, 4. Black Hole Puzzle, 5. Crazy Rabbit (controller can be added), 6. Stolen Sword.
New apps in the BYD Store: Calm Radio#
Calm Radio’s relaxing music channels, with classical works, nature sounds, easy-listening favourites and calming music, provide a more pleasant and calming atmosphere while driving.
Precaution: audio playback and background downloading consume mobile data; a Wi-Fi connection is recommended.
Support for three more BYD Assistant languages#
The BYD Assistant’s interaction has been optimised: Zoom can be opened and closed by voice in all languages; Spotify playback and opening/closing playlists is supported in all languages; after the wake word the assistant now replies with a phrase such as “I’m here”, “Yes?” or “What’s up?”, in a friendlier and more natural tone; the current date can be queried in all languages (limited to today’s date).
Three languages have been added to the BYD Assistant: Dutch, Danish and Swedish. Connect to the Wi-Fi or 4G network and then download the language pack. Denmark: Danish; Netherlands and Belgium: Dutch; Sweden and Finland: Swedish.
Google search added to the navigation#
Google search is available in the navigation. Google results are shown when there is an internet connection, and the detail page also shows information from Google such as ratings, photos and reviews.
Navigation voice support now follows the system language when switching between Swedish and Danish. The languages currently supported are English, Norwegian, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and Dutch.
Prerequisite: the TTS resource package has to be installed at the workshop if the customer wants it (the TTS package and the operating instruction must be uploaded to the TIS system as an SN).
Karaoke function (compatible with the new grey microphone)#
A karaoke scoring function has been added, with a large choice of songs including various kinds of popular music.
Real-time incentive function: during karaoke the system scores the singing performance live and gives encouraging feedback.
Adjustable warning-tone intensity with three levels#
The setting covers the tones for the steering wheel, hazard warning, power on/off, gear shifting, instrument cluster notifications, radar warnings, seat belts, ADAS driving assistance, active safety and the DMS (Driver Monitoring System).
Default setting: medium level.
[DOLPHIN, SEAL, SEAL U, SEAL U DM-i] “Password to Drive” function#
Important notes: before opening the driving password settings, make sure the vehicle is in P.
The driving password function only applies when the smart key is used to open the vehicle, or in combination with the micro-switch mechanism in the door handle. Opening the vehicle through the mobile app is not restricted.
Optimisations#
Customisable bottom dock bar#
The dock bar can be customised by picking functions from two categories: vehicle controls (for example air conditioning, seat adjustment, defrosting, steering-wheel heating and lighting) and apps (Music, Settings, Navigation, Media Center), so frequently used functions can be arranged freely.
Settings layout#
The menu categorisation has been optimised: the primary menu grows from 5 to 8 entries, the number of secondary menu items is reduced to a maximum of 6, and a search function has been added to make the settings easier to use.
Customisable quick-access bar#
The quick-access centre has been optimised with a simpler layout and a refreshed interface design. It brings the most important control functions to the front and can be edited to match individual customer preferences.
ADAS optimisations (TSR, ACC, FCTB)#
TSR recognition in specific scenarios: speed limits below 60 km/h on motorways have been removed, speed limits above 100 km/h in cities have been removed, and conditional speed limits for the night-time period have been optimised.
ACC false braking: fewer false brake applications in stationary-target scenarios, for example vehicles parked at the roadside.
ACC speed stability improved: fixes the fault where the speed shown in the instrument cluster suddenly jumped by ±1 while the ACC value was being set.
FCTB (Front Cross Traffic Braking) sensitivity adjustment: excessive sensitivity in roundabout scenarios is reduced for smoother behaviour. Traffic signal: cross-traffic braking is reduced to lower the trigger frequency. Pulling away: braking by the driver can stop the intervention.
Front radar warning distance and cluster brightness#
The front radar warning distance when shifting from “P” to “D” has been increased: the front millimetre-wave radar from 40 cm to 70 cm, and the corner radar from 40 cm to 60 cm.
The instrument cluster’s brightness adjustment for light/dark mode has been optimised.
Maintenance display and heating performance#
The maintenance display has been adapted to the new maintenance policy (km + miles).
Heating performance has been optimised: all heating target temperatures have been raised to take cooler regions into account (Europe).
[SEAL, SEAL U, SEAL U DM-i] Automatic power on/off, translation accuracy and Bluetooth call echo fix#
Automatic power on/off has been added (for SEAL). With the automatic power on/off function active, the start button no longer has to be pressed when getting in or out: after getting in, press the brake pedal, select a gear and drive off; when leaving, lock the vehicle to switch it off.
The accuracy of the system translations has been comprehensively optimised for the 15 main EU languages: English, Portuguese, German, Spanish, French, Hebrew, Italian, Norwegian, Danish, Dutch, Hungarian, Swedish, Greek, Polish and Turkish.
The echo problem on Bluetooth calls made through the vehicle’s hands-free system has been fixed (SEAL U EV / SEAL U DM-i).
BYD App: mileage display for right-hand-drive markets and charging schedule#
A miles/odometer display has been added to the BYD App for right-hand-drive markets (range and total odometer reading).
The charging schedule function in the BYD App adds compatible models — ATTO 3, Dolphin, SEAL and HAN — and requires app version V2.6.0 or later.
Also in this release#
OTA upgrade notice: checking the vehicle version#
Check the vehicle version under Settings – Vehicle – Version – Update.
Target multimedia version for ATTO 3 / HAN / Dolphin / SEAL / SEAL U EV / SEAL U DM-i / ATTO 2: 13.1.33.2503250.1.
Key instructions for the OTA upgrade#
Precautions: 1. The moment at which the vehicle receives the push notification can vary, so please be patient; the actual duration of the upgrade is shown in the vehicle’s system messages. 2. Start the update outside driving time — the vehicle cannot be driven while the update runs.
Before updating: park the vehicle on a level, safe surface in P; make sure the network signal is strong; keep the battery level above 20% (upgrades cannot be run below 20%); close all doors, the bonnet and the boot.
- Caution: do NOT attempt the OTA upgrade if the vehicle is in one of the following situations, otherwise the update can fail and impair the intended operation of the vehicle — connected to external OBD devices (for example taximeters); charging or discharging the battery; in transport mode.
If an error message appears, visit an authorised workshop for a manual upgrade using an offline VDS or the USB flash update procedure.
USB upgrade of the multimedia system (ATTO 3 / Dolphin / Seal / Seal U EV / Seal U DM-i)#
Requires multimedia version 13.1.33.2407240.1 or later, and applies to ATTO 3 / HAN / Dolphin / Seal / Seal U EV / Seal U DM-i / ATTO 2.
- Connect the USB drive to the vehicle; a prompt appears asking you to scan with VDS to obtain authorisation. 2. Connect VDS to Wi-Fi and scan the QR code on the pad screen with the camera. 3. Authorisation successful.
The workshop instruction reproduced on the slide adds: download the target multimedia update file from the related OTA SN on TIS (the file must not be passed to any external party); prepare a USB stick larger than 8 GB and smaller than 64 GB and format it to FAT32; create the folder structure BYDUpdatePackage / msm8953_64 holding updateFull.zip; power on the vehicle; insert the USB disk into the USB port under the front auxiliary panel; the pad then shows a QR code that an internet-connected VDS scans to authorise the upgrade. The procedure excludes the TANG EV 23.
OTA troubleshooting and SN documents#
Process improvement: this time the SN documents are uploaded before the batch is released.
- Log in to the TIS system. 2. Look under Technical Bulletin → Program flashing.
There is an SN OTA document for each model, plus SN-01-2024-058 “BYD Vehicle OTA Instructions”, which contains the solutions for OTA malfunctions.
What we have not verified#
- This is a translation of BYD Austria’s bulletin, not a test: we have not installed V1.8.2 (ATTO 3) / V1.5.1 (DOLPHIN) / V1.4.0 (SEAL) / V1.3.0 (SEAL U) / V1.3.0 (SEAL U DM-i) / V1.1.0 (ATTO 2) / V1.5.1 (HAN) on a Atto 3, Dolphin, Seal, Seal U, Seal U DM-i, Atto 2 and Han.
- The bulletin was published by BYD’s Austrian importer. The release itself is the European one, but roll-out dates are given for Austria, and a few items are country-specific (radio services, interface languages, legal notes).
- Availability of individual features can depend on trim, model year and the head-unit hardware.
