New features#

Vehicle account linked to a memory function for customisable themes#

Mobile app functions: sign in to the mobile app by QR code, and authorise the mobile app key. Requires BYD App version ≥ V2.8.0.

Vehicle-side account functions: QR-code login and logout, personal information settings, personalisation settings. Built-in memory functions for the seat, the mirrors and the electric steering column, customisable themes, ambient lighting memory, cloud-key unlocking and account login. Which of these apply depends on the equipment level and differs between models.

Personal information settings — changing the avatar: only images stored locally on the vehicle can be used.

Available in 32 countries: United Kingdom, Italy, Israel, Hungary, Greece, Spain, Slovenia, Slovakia, Cyprus, Switzerland, Sweden, Portugal, Norway, Malta, Romania, Luxembourg, Lithuania, Latvia, Croatia, Czechia, Netherlands, Finland, France, Germany, Denmark, Poland, Iceland, Belgium, Bulgaria, Austria, Estonia and Ireland.

Cloud data management added#

On by default.

BYD states that it takes the protection of privacy and data seriously. As soon as the vehicle is connected to the internet, by Wi-Fi or mobile data, the system automatically uploads only the necessary, securely processed data to the cloud, to ensure service quality and security.

Three options can be viewed at any time and switched on or off individually under Settings > System settings > General > Cloud data management. On the head unit they are named Cloud service app (BYD’s own intelligent services for remote control and real-time vehicle status), Analysis and Service Improvement (improving vehicle performance and driving experience and offering smart driving services) and Network security (enhancing vehicle system and network security and preventing cyber attacks).

The car also notes that a network connection is required for cloud-based data processing: Vehicle System cellular data must be switched on or the car connected to a WLAN, otherwise the basic Vehicle System services cannot be provided. Details are in the BYD Vehicle System Privacy Statement.

Energy consumption analysis added#

Energy Consumption Curve: the chart shows the equivalent energy consumption curve for the last 50 km driven. The energy consumption distribution for that trip is calculated and shown below the chart. The statistics exclude energy consumed while parked and contain only energy consumed while driving. The distribution appears after about 1 km of driving.

Energy Consumption Distribution: the share of energy consumed by drive, A/C, electrical appliances and others over the last 50 km. Drive is the energy used by the motor to move the car; A/C is the energy used by the air conditioning and its accessories; electrical appliances covers the instrument, the centre screen, the lighting system and other on-board consumers; others covers Vehicle To Load, thermal-management optimisation and further performance functions.

BYD Assistant can be activated from the steering wheel while the screen is off#

Voice control buttons: with the screen switched off, pressing the voice control button wakes the screen and opens the voice bar.

Voice control added for switching heating and ventilation modes off#

“Hi BYD, Heizung ausschalten” (“Hi BYD, switch off the heating”) is answered with “Heizung deaktiviert” (“Heating deactivated”).

“Hi BYD, Lüftung ein-/ausschalten” (“Hi BYD, switch the ventilation on/off”) is answered with “Lüftung ein-/ausgeschaltet” (“Ventilation switched on/off”).

Instrument cluster pop-up added for detecting a covered face#

If the multimedia system receives a face-covering signal from the DMS and the vehicle speed is above 10 km/h, the PAD shows the messages “Fahrerüberwachungssystem nicht verfügbar” (driver monitoring system not available) and “Gesichtserkennung eingeschränkt” (face recognition limited) as soon as covering of the face, mouth or eyes is detected.

Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support added for selected countries#

Croatia, Romania, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Slovakia and Serbia.

Optimisations#

Android Auto and Apple CarPlay functionality optimised#

Android Auto: all functions are available in gear P. In every other gear only voice functions can be used. Video playback is not supported. Input method, settings and input length are no longer restricted in use.

CarPlay / Android Auto pop-up display rules: with reverse gear engaged and the reversing camera active, CarPlay / Android Auto pop-ups must not cover the view. Outside reverse gear, or outside the reversing camera view, the pop-ups are shown normally.

Notice for wireless CarPlay / Android Auto and WLAN: if the user switches Wi-Fi on from the status bar while wireless CarPlay / Android Auto is in use, a pop-up notice appears.

CarPlay interface — navigation logic: while the CarPlay interface is in use, tapping the App Center icon in the navigation bar moves CarPlay to the background. Tapping the App Center icon again reopens the main CarPlay interface.

Radio signal switching logic optimised#

New radio functions: automatic switching between FM and DAB is supported, and the system searches independently for alternative stations carrying identical content, to improve switching speed and stability when changing station.

When the classic broadcast signal is weak, the system switches automatically to streaming radio with identical content, so that playback is not interrupted.

System UI display and text prompts optimised#

A reset function has been added to the navigation bar customisation screen.

After Settings reset, Bluetooth is enabled by default.

Icons and themes: the map icon in the App Center does not adapt to the theme skins. It keeps only the uniform rounded corners.

Navigation bar: with reverse gear engaged and the reversing camera active, the status bar can neither be pulled down nor tapped. A mask is also placed over the dock, so it cannot be tapped either.

ICC deactivation conditions optimised so that ICC can also be switched off when it is not active#

ICC switch rules. Inactive state: the switch can be turned off. Impermissible operation: tapping triggers the message “Bitte verlassen Sie zuerst das ADAS.” — on the head unit, “Please exit ADAS first”.

What we have not verified#

This is a translation of BYD Austria’s bulletin, not a test: we have not installed V2.1.0 on a Atto 2.
The bulletin was published by BYD’s Austrian importer. The release itself is the European one, but roll-out dates are given for Austria, and a few items are country-specific (radio services, interface languages, legal notes).
Availability of individual features can depend on trim, model year and the head-unit hardware.
