BYD Austria published this bulletin on 2 Jun 2026 for a roll-out in June 2026. Everything below is translated from the German PDF; we have not installed this release on a car.

Overview#

New

  • New BYD Assistant with AI-supported voice assistance added.
  • Trailer mode added.

Optimised

  • Optimised presentation of the user interface and of the system’s text messages.
  • Optimised text messages when switching on the air conditioning.
  • Optimised window control on the PAD.
  • Problems with vehicle location in the cloud service have been fixed.

New features#

BYD Assistant with large language model added#

With the extended AI functions, the BYD Assistant can now handle not only fixed voice commands but also more complex tasks such as intelligent route planning and AI-generated content, with improved speech understanding and voice quality.

The BYD Assistant now answers free-form questions with generated text rather than only executing fixed commands.

Trailer mode added#

Once a tow bar has been fitted, users can enable this option under “Settings > Drive > Driving Control > Trailer mode” (Einstellungen > Antrieb > Fahrsteuerung > Anhängermodus).

This mode is only available on vehicles whose tow bar was fitted by an authorised BYD workshop.

Trailer mode lives under Driving Control and asks for a trailer weight class (0–99 kg or 100–750 kg) that the car uses to adjust its power and driver-assistance strategy.

Optimisations#

Optimised user interface and system text messages#

Volume control: two sliders, “Media” and “Navigation”, are shown by default and can be adjusted manually.

Volume pop-up: can be expanded to show all audio channels.

Pop-up timing: automatic closing after inactivity set to 4 seconds.

ICC trailer mode: text added for DiLink instrument clusters.

UI icons: icons for the sunroof and boot switches updated.

Smart Driving: optimised greyed-out logic shows the deactivated state immediately.

Front Vehicle Start Alert: new setting added under “Driving Assistance”.

EPB trailer mode: settings in the “Drive – Maintenance” (Fahren – Wartung) menu adjusted.

Privacy policy and terms of use: extended to several further European countries and updated for Europe and Israel.

The redesigned home screen dock with navigation, radio, phone and settings widgets.

The EPB trailer-mode dialog in the Drive – Maintenance menu now lists the three conditions (gear P, brake pedal pressed, not charging) before it can be switched on.

Optimised text messages when switching on the air conditioning#

Text prompts – air conditioning.

Before OTA: no text prompt.

After OTA: if the intelligent on/off function is active and the customer switches on the air conditioning, the instrument cluster shows the message: “Please press the brake pedal and start the vehicle before switching on the air conditioning.”

After the update the car explains why the A/C does not start when the vehicle is not yet powered on.

Optimised window control on the PAD#

The user interface is clearer and more intuitive, with more precise touch response and improved rendering. Remote-control, voice and one-touch window functions are more stable, with faster response times and better compatibility.

The redesigned window-control page: swipe on the window to set its opening, or use Close All, Open All and Ventilation.

Vehicle location in the cloud service fixed#

Problems with vehicle location in the cloud service have been fixed. The bulletin gives no further detail.

What we have not verified#

  • This is a translation of BYD Austria’s bulletin, not a test: we have not installed V1.2.0 on a Atto 2 DM-i.
  • The bulletin was published by BYD’s Austrian importer. The release itself is the European one, but roll-out dates are given for Austria, and a few items are country-specific (radio services, interface languages, legal notes).
  • Availability of individual features can depend on trim, model year and the head-unit hardware.
